Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
one of my all time favorites! It hit just right for me.
This book jumps back and forth between present day United States and Leningrad during WWII. Two different sisters, Meredith and Nina, find themselves together again when their father falls ill. This also puts them back in the presence of their cold, disapproving mother. The story jumps back and forth in time as they learn the truth about their mothers life in Leningrad during the war.
This story was beautiful, heartbreaking, emotional, heavy, and powerful! I struggled to like some of the characters in the beginning, but was won over in the end. I also learned a lot about Russian history, which was interesting to me. I loved the family dynamics of motherhood, sisterhood, and family. This isn’t one of Kristin Hannah’s most popular, but definitely one of my favorites!
