We Were Liars and Family of Liars by E. Lockhart

YA psychological thrillers set on a private island. These books are about the beautiful + distinguished Sinclair family. In We Were Liars; a group of four friends- the Liars- friendship turns destructive. I think it’s best to go into this book knowing almost nothing. The writing style is different and while I don’t know if it’s always for me; it made the pages FLY! I read this in a couple of hours. It was moody, painted a vivid picture, and easy to read! I thought about this book for days after it ended.

Family of Liars is the prequel; although I would read We Were Liars first. In Family of Liars we are taken back to the windswept private island off the coast of Massachusetts with the Sinclair family. We have a summer of unforgivable betrayal and horrible mistakes. We learn more about the three Sinclair sisters and the drama that takes place that shapes the lives of their kids in We Were Liars. My takeaway was that family drama affects even the wealthiest of families.

I’m more of a lightweight when it comes to the thriller genre; so this was absolutely perfect for me. I loved switching up my regular reads and I think this series is a great summer thriller with the ‘rich family, east coast vacation’ vibe! Incredible page turning reads!
