Solito by Javier Zamora

I couldn't help but cry throughout this entire book. It was a harrowing story. I'd love to see it on a required reading list. Javier is a poet and the story is written from the perspective of a 9 yr old boy- it's a very sensory experience. If you don't connect with poetry I could see how you may have a difficult time getting into the story. It's slower paced than something like American Dirt, but that's because this is all true!

We read this for our book club and many people said they had a hard time with the intonation on audio. It didn't bother me! We all appreciated that Javier narrates and especially the words in Spanish.

If you read this and want the book club questions let me know! We didn't stop talking about this book for two hours! And the most thought provoking question of them all- was it worth it?
