Only the Beautiful by Susan Meissner

Prepare yourself with tissues for this emotional read. I love historical fiction and always appreciate when I find a book that tells a part of history that I haven’t read about. I could NOT put this one down and cried multiple times. It gave me plenty to think about and made me ponder the idea of our society accepting “Only The Beautiful” in our world today.

This book explores some emotionally fraught topics including eugenics both in Europe, and shockingly in the US as well, during World War II. We follow two women, Rosie in the first part of the book and Helen in the second half. I loved that both female protagonists were strong, determined and committed to what they believed in.

I also highly recommend reading the author’s note and almost wished I had read it before starting the book. This was a heavy book, feel free to DM me for trigger warnings. I listened to this book and would recommend the format.
