DNF @70% through.
I was totally entertained the first 40% of the book. I thought the magic and abilities were unique and it was an interesting change. Hard to say much more without spoiling it!
At about the 70% mark I realized there was no pull for me to continue reading. The world building was all tell (through asking questions) and no show which doesn't work for me. It felt like it became all about the spice which may really work for other readers! I prefer the plot to be > or = to the spice!
